J1000 Technical Day introduced

As you may be aware, there are a number of new J1000 Requirements being introduced in 2024 in line with the aim to retain fairness and competition within the sport and to re-affirm the aim of the series to develop Driver Talent from a young age.

Licence Requirements

There are changes to licencing requirements announces by MI in relation to accompanying under 18 year old competitors. Please refer to an earlier post by the Irish Forest rally Championship HERE to see relevant changes and new licencing requirements.

Technical Compliance Certification for all J1000 cars mandatory from 2024.

The Minor Entrant Licence holder who has entered the Junior driver in the event will be responsible for the Technical Compliance of the car which has been entered into any MI event by them.

All J1000 cars being entered on MI events from January 2024 will be required to have been checked and certified by the MI Scrutineering Team coordinated by the MI Technical Commission.

There will be a J1000 Technical Compliance inspection day held in Mondello Park on Saturday January 20th, 2024, from 10 to 4pm.

There will be a fee of €150 per car which includes soup and sandwichs for 2 people.

Attendance at the event can be booked through the Irish Forest Rally Championship HERE. Although you will be asked to select a time slot, all vehicles are required on-site in Mondello from 10am.

Schedule

Group 1 will present cars at scrutiny bay at 10 am. Parent /Guardian need only stay with Car, J1000 driver may participate in MI Academy training.

Group 2 will remain near the scrutiny area for discussion with Derek Brannigan in relation to seat fitting, tyre changing procedure and general advice etc.

Group 3 /4 will go to The GP suite for

·        Media Training with Cian Donnellan/Andy Walsh

·        Performance Coaching with Alan Heary

·        Fitness and Training with Dermot Sheridan

The 2024 Rally academy will be in attendance on the day so the J1000 drivers and their Parent/Guardian will get a great insight into the structure and procedures adopted by the academy in how they train and educate the MI Rally Academy drivers.

CianDon Photography will be on hand to provide media support on the day including driver Head Shots, so we would encourage all drivers to have their race suit & helmet available on the day.

If you cannot attend on January 20th you may have a car inspected at a later date by appointment only with the MI Scrutineering team at a venue organised by car owner which must a functioning ramp and fee of €200 being paid in advance.

The J1000 Technical Regulation (2024), Appendices 2 and 29.1 will form the basis of the criteria which need to be achieved.

All aspects of the car will open for inspection. All necessary bolts must be pre-drilled to facilitate the addition of a seals. This must be done prior to attending any inspection. All cars must be presented as they would be for pre event scrutineering with the exception of the gearbox not being fitted.

The following items will be inspected and sealed if deemed legally acceptable;

1. Engine: A bore & stroke test will be carried out.

2. Gearbox: Gears checked, and final drive calculated. Only a gearbox which is out of the car can be inspected. A car presented which has its gearbox fitted cannot be inspected or sealed. More than one gearbox may be presented for inspection and sealing on the day.

3. Throttle bodies/Air intake: Will be measured and compared to original part.

4. Catalytic Converters: Visual inspection.

5. ECU’s; will be sealed for later inspection.
